Board of the British American Business Council Midlands (BABC) 07.07.2011 David Smeeton sits on the Board of the British American Business Council which held its annual Independence Day Drinks on the top floor hospitality suite of KPMG’s offices at One Snowhill on Monday 4 July 2011. Colliers International sponsored the evening which was attended by over 90 guests, including Jerry Blackett who Heads the Chamber of Commerce, a brief visit by Paul Kehoe CEO of Birmingham Airport and Marek Dobrowolski from Marketing Birmingham. David Smeeton had the opportunity to say a few words: “I became involved with BABC two years ago, since which we have been acquired by First Service, a Canadian Company who own the Colliers International Brand. Last year we acquired just over 60% of Brindleyplace for Hines Global REIT, who are based in Houston for £200M and last month we acquired Phase II of Snowhill again for Hines but this time it was for their European Growth Fund. Two Snowhill was designed by architects Sidell Gibson, and will be a 14-storey office building, comprising some 305,000 sq ft of Grade A office accommodation and 9,000 sq ft of retail space. Wragge & Co have agreed a pre-let and will take 185,000 sq ft at a rent of £33 per sq ft. The remaining space will be developed speculatively. This is the only speculative building in an English regional city that is being built at the moment which is testament to the confidence one of the world’s largest developers has in our city and the West Midlands region in general. Work on site commenced just three weeks ago and it will be March 2012 when the building will be handed over to Wragge & Co for their fitting out. So North America has proved to be a very happy hunting ground for Colliers International over the last 24 months and our links are growing stronger by the day. If you have any interest in developing you links with North America BABC is the organisation to join. Thank you to Justin Benson and KPMG for the use of their wonderful facility and enjoy the views of Phase II of Snowhill coming on stream!” Overall the event was very well received. The feedback from the event has been fantastic, with guests complimenting the venue and atmosphere. You can view photos of the event on flickr.
