Cyclopark opens - Kent

Cyclopark, Kent’s new Activity Place, has recently opened creating a world-class multi-use cycling, running and street sports facility, regenerating 43ha of the old A2 road, south of Gravesend.

From early in its inception, Colliers International’s Destination Consulting team have worked with Kent County Council on various aspects of the project throughout 2008 to 2011, culminating in the successful delivery of the £8m scheme.

Colliers International Destination Consulting were the retained business planning consultant advising on market analysis, visitor forecasting, product and concept development, capital cost and funding, operational financial planning and management and governance. The team also led the branding and marketing strategy, including the creation of the name and logos alongside graphic design team Bolland & Lowe.

Cyclopark Kent

The development, representing British Cycling's highest priority facility investment, follows the recent success of British cyclists at national and Olympic levels and responds to the growing demand and participation in cycling.

The facility is the first of its kind in the UK aimed at a broad spectrum of users from community level to elite, and includes road circuits, off-road mountain bike trails, BMX track, Skate park and a Pavilion building.

Key features of Cyclopark include:

  • A 43 ha park in total with facilities for cycling, triathlon, horse riding, walking, running, outdoor exercise equipment, split between a “core” ticketed area and free entry parklands.
  • A potential of 5.3 km of cycle tracks for safe, traffic free competitive speed and endurance road cycling, 2.9 km of them within the “core” facility.
  • A pavilion (1,200 m²) with indoor training facilities, community sports space, changing rooms, clubs workshops, office accommodation for coaching staff, café, equipment hire and equipment sales.
  • BMX race track (340m) - with racetrack, trails and arena area.
  • Mountain Bike – approximately 6km of technical circuits and trails.
  • Skateboard Park (1,400 m²) – providing a range of challenging and exciting facilities.
  • A play area and children’s cycle play area (3000 m²) for younger children to learn balance and basic bicycle handling.
  • Outdoor Sports Area (600 m²).
  • About 170 permanent parking spaces, coach parking and 170 green overspill places.
