The Environment

We are committed to improving our environmental performance. Our environmental policy sets out the ways in which we are managing the impact of our activities and services on the environment.

We continue to maintain our accreditation to ISO 14001, the leading standard for managing environmental responsibilities. This accreditation, awarded in 2005 and covering all our offices, also extends to the advice given to clients by our building consultancy division.

A number of initiatives to reduce our environmental footprint are taking effect. We have enhanced our recycling facility so that around 75% of all waste and redundant items are now recycled. All photocopies and printed items are now produced on recycled paper. We are negotiating with our electricity supplier to receive 100% green electricity for our head office and we are looking to make it carbon neutral, with minimal carbon offsetting, by the end of 2009. We see tackling our environmental footprint as very much part of our corporate culture now.

Assessing the impact of a client's property occupation and management in terms of environmental sustainability is now a common feature of many of our client relationships throughout the UK. This has lead to a number of important appointments - we are working with BioRegional Quintain to identify sites in the West Country for sustainable communities schemes, with the London Development Agency on a sustainable industrial park in east London and with Lincoln Council on a sustainable urban extension to the city. A sustainability action team drawn from a broad spectrum of our people ensures that these various initiatives are coordinated and communicated across the business.

As a founding member of the UK Green Building Council, we are also working in partnership with other leading companies in the UK property sector to improve the sustainability of the built environment.
