Communities

Being a good corporate citizen is about making a positive contribution to the communities in and around which we work.

As a company we do this in many ways, from funding good causes to encouraging volunteering by our employees.

We believe we can make a clear, long lasting difference by focusing on three themes that typify us as a business:

  • education
  • leadership
  • the built environment

Our community investment programme is increasingly being orientated around these themes.

Current community activities

  1. Colliers Green Focus - launched 2007
An innovative project to help children understand environmental change and sustainable development in their local area using photography. The project involves a programme of workshops, exhibitions and school resources, to be rolled out over the next 3 school years and embedded within the geography curriculum for 11-14 year olds. A permanent teaching resource will be created and made available to students and teachers.

Colliers Green Focus is our flagship community initiative to significantly assist sustainability teaching in 30 schools across the country and we are undertaking this project in partnership with the Photographers' Gallery and the Royal Geographical Society.

  2. Outward BoundWe continue to provide young people with opportunities to explore their capabilities through our bursary funding of Outward Bound courses. Over the past 12 months, approximately 20 children, with severe, prolonged learning difficulties, from Piper Hill School in Manchester took part in courses in the Lake District, while 23 inner-city children from St Saviour's and St Olave's School in south London attended a week-long team working and leadership course in North Wales.

  3. Staff development - Our programme explores the practicalities of sustainability within a schools based community investment initative. Our partner in this is the New Start Trust, a charity working with communities in the developing world on the building of new sustainable homes.

  4. Chartered Surveyors Training Trust - Our support for the trust helps young people who would not otherwise have had the opportunity to embark on a career in surveying.

  5. World Wide Volunteering for Young People - We are involved with this organisation in Scotland, whose work helps people access a wide range of volunteering opportunities.

  6. Give As You Earn - We offer this scheme to all employees and encourage active involvement in fundraising, eg through our support for the annual cycle ride.

All activities are overseen by our Charities Committee and guided by our (pdf file 33KB) Community Investment Policy.
