Eastern States furniture and bedding retailer Super A-Mart has touched down in WA, taking a lease over the bulk of the former IKEA site in Osborne Park ahead of a planned move into the Perth retail market in the second half of 2008.
In a deal brokered by Colliers International, Super A-Mart has signed a lease over the 3,907sq m former IKEA showroom building and a 1,706sq m warehouse on the prominent Scarborough Beach Road site.
After commencing trading in 1970, Super A-Mart has grown to become Australia’s biggest discount furniture and bedding retailer, with a chain of 24 superstores located in Queensland and New South Wales.
Two years ago, the retailer was bought out by the management team in conjunction with private equity firm Ironbridge Capital – a move which has seen Super A-Mart begin to expand to other States, with Darwin and WA earmarked for new stores this year.
Colliers International Associate Director of Retail Leasing Richard Cash, who brokered the lease, said the landmark Osborne Park site had proved ideal for the retailer.
“Super A-Mart are doing a number of deals in WA, and the IKEA site offered a prime location with the right amount of space and great parking,” he said.
“On top of that, of course, Osborne Park is obviously the retailer’s number one choice where it comes to bulky goods retail premises.”
