Company History

History
Little more than twenty-five years ago, three independent Australian Real Estate Companies met in Melbourne to create the nucleus of what was to become the largest and most widespread commercial real estate organisation in the world.
The name Colliers was chosen in recognition of Ronald Collier (1904 - 1974), the founding partner of Colliers Jones Lang Wootton in Australia.  The seven founding partners of Colliers International all had worked under Ronald Collier and chose his name posthumously as a token of their respect for this professionalism, innovation and entrepreneurial flair - the guiding principles of Colliers International to this day.
The collaborative of the original Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney companies in 1974 soon established offices in Canberra, Brisbane and Perth and aligned itself with companies in Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand and Canada.  Subsequently it opened its first international office in Hong Kong in the late seventies, and took direct ownership of the New Zealand operation in 1989.

Merger with Jardine Pacific
The worldwide property services and technical expertise of the Colliers group were linked with the regional business strength of Jardine Pacific by an equity merger concluded in April 1991.  Jardine Pacific is the wholly owned trading and services subsidiary of Jardine Matheson, Asia’s second oldest and largest trading company.  The company traded as Colliers Jardine throughout the Asia Pacific region from 1991 through to the end of 2001.

Colliers Macaulay Nicolls
Following a further revision of Colliers International’s ownership structure in July 1997, the Company became jointly owned by Jardine Pacific and Colliers Macaulay Nicolls (CMN), an integrated property and consultancy services group with offices in North and South America and Eastern Europe.  CMN trades as Colliers International in all its markets.  At the end of 2001 CMN acquired the balance of the shares in Colliers Jardine and the name in the Asia Pacific region changed back to Colliers International.  With the addition of CMN’s resources, expertise and network, Colliers International is now able to offer seamless property services in more than 50 countries over six continents across the globe.  Furthermore, as the largest member of the global Colliers International association, the company can call upon the support of a network of over 238 offices and 7,600 professionals worldwide.
