NEW YORK, May 8, 2008- Colliers ABR, Inc., a leading full service commercial real estate services firm, announced today that The Fencers Club of New York, the oldest continuously existing organization dedicated to the sport of fencing in the U.S. has signed a 10 year lease for 12,500 square feet of space at 229 W. 28th Street, taking over the entire second floor.
The non-for-profit organization, founded in 1883, plans to relocate from their current location on 119 W. 25th Street as soon the new space is ready.
The Fencers Club of New York has produced successive generations of Olympians and National Champions. The organization has trained more US Olympians than any other club in the United States. Classes and lessons for members ranging from recreational fencers to serious international competitors are taught by a roster of top-level coaches.
David Lebenstein, Senior Managing Director and Director, Not-for-Profit Division of Colliers ABR and Debra Wollens, of Colliers ABR represented The Fencers Club of New York in the transaction.
“We are extremely pleased to help The Fencers Club of New York expand their headquarters to this 12-story, loft-style building,” said Mr. Lebenstein. “We were able to successfully negotiate for the organization to stay in the neighborhood and move into this great Class B office building.”
Joss Realty Partners, owner of the building, were represented by Barry Bernstein and David Danick of Winoker Realty. The building is located across from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) and borders the Chelsea and Penn Station submarkets.
“We are pleased that Colliers ABR was able to find such an ideal space for the Fencer’s Club and all of the clubs’ offerings,” said James Melcher, Chairman of The Fencer’s Club. “We are looking forward to moving our existing and potential new members to this great new location, especially at this exciting time in the history of the Club and the upcoming 2008 Summer Olympics.”
