David Houston, Jr., SIOR, FRICS, CRE and President of Colliers Houston & Co. has been selected to receive the distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award by the New Jersey Chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Professionals (NAIOP). Houston is being recognized for his distinguished and longstanding record of service to the commercial real estate industry and community, as well as his significant personal accomplishments.

The Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Houston during NAIOP’s 22nd Annual Commercial Real Estate Awards Gala, which is taking place in May of 2009 at the NJPAC in Newark, NJ.

“Being selected to receive this award is a tremendous honor for me,” stated Houston. “I would like to thank the board members of NAIOP’s New Jersey Chapter for bestowing me with this esteemed tribute.”

David T. Houston Jr., joined Colliers Houston & Co. in 1972, where he has been serving as the company’s president since 1978. Acting as a licensed real estate broker and consultant, Houston has served some of the largest and most prestigious corporations and developers in the U.S. in meeting their real estate goals and objectives including: Johnson & Johnson, RJR Nabisco, General Motors, Becton Dickinson, General Electric, Union Carbide, Marcal Paper, W.W. Grainger, UPS and BASF. Throughout his illustrious career, he has been responsible for the sale and leasing of some of the largest industrial transactions and office leases in N.J.

Over the course of his 30-year career, Houston has been recognized as an expert in the evaluation and marketing of commercial real estate by such organization as the New Jersey Tax Court, Superior Court, County Tax Boards and Condemnation Commissioners.

In addition to serving as a Trustee of NAIOP for twenty years, Houston has served as the President of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors, as well as on its Executive Committee, as a District Vice President and President of the New Jersey chapter. In addition, he has been elected to the Executive Committee as well and the Board of Directors of the National Associations of Realtors, Chairman of the Board and a Director of Colliers USA, Director of New Jersey’s Association of Realtors, President of the Industrial and Office Real Estate Broker’s Association of the New York Metropolitan Area, and a Trustee and Chairman of the SIOR Education Foundation. 

On top of his achievements in the real estate industry, Houston is a frequent speaker at the international and national elevel, having spoken before The Society of Industrial and Office Realtors, The Counselors of Real Estate, The National Association of Office and Industrial Parks and Realcom. In addition, he has presented at regional meetings of the Appraisal Institute, the Mortgage Brokers Association, as well as the state conventions of Realtors in New Jersey, Delaware, Louisiana, Maryland, Tennessee and Ohio.

A graduate of Dartmouth College, Houston holds an MBA in finance and accounting from Columbia University where he won several awards for academic excellence and was elected to Beta Gamma Sigma. His professional affiliations include SIOR, CRE, FRICS, NAR, NAIOP and IOREBA.
