Colliers Appoints New Regional Head to Offer Innovative Solutions to Clients

Environmental sustainability has emerged as one of the key focus areas in the real estate industry.  It is significant as a social issue as well as a commercial opportunity.  To continue its leading role in the market, Colliers International has appointed Simon Carter, as the Regional Head of Sustainability, Asia Pacific.

In his new position, Simon will lead the delivery of regional environmental sustainability programmes, which both addresses Colliers’ own ecological footprint, and assists the clients to manage risks and leverage opportunities associated with environmental sustainability in real estate.  While taking on this new role, Simon continues to lead the sustainability team of Colliers International Australia.  He is splitting his time to provide 50% to the Asia Region and 50% to the Australian business.  He also co-leads the organisation’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme.

Having headed sustainability in Colliers International Australia for the last three and a half years and previously in a large Australian architectural practice for 5 years, Simon has developed a strong reputation as a thought leader and innovator with regards to the change in real estate around environmental sustainability.  He focuses on forecasting how the property industry is changing with regards to sustainability, facilitating programmes to enable Colliers International operators to gain the knowledge they need and innovating new ways for clients to benefit from investing in ‘green’ buildings and work environments.

Simon assists landlords to determine appropriate levels of ‘green’ performance for new developments, position advanced buildings in the market and develop business cases for upgrading existing assets.

For office tenants, he examines the changing value proposition of buildings and work environments.  This includes understanding emerging business imperatives such as those to do with the Battle for Talent, the Knowledge Economy, Corporate Social Responsibility, duty of care and business continuity, and the implications for property as tenants increasingly use their buildings and work environments as strategic tools to address these issues.  This business case is presented in Lifeblood, a groundbreaking report authored by Simon (2006).

Frequently sought after to present at leading conferences within Australia and internationally, Simon speaks on topics such as the transformation of tenant requirements, sustainability, advanced work environments and knowledge working.

"Simon will be a great asset to Asia, setting standards and accelerating knowledge flow across the region," said George McKay, Managing Director of Corporate Services, Colliers International.  "Our clients will benefit from his wealth of knowledge and expertise as they seek for more innovative and environmentally sustainable solutions in real estate."

Simon's achievements in environmental sustainability in real estate was recognized in various industry awards, including finalist in PCA Innovation & Excellence Awards – Future Leader in 2007, finalist in REI NEW Awards for Excellence – Community Service in 2006 and finalist in REI NSW Awards for Excellence, Innovation, 2005.
