Columbus, Ohio (May 22, 2007) Recent industrial developments in Columbus’ Southeast submarket are creating a buzz around the globe about Columbus. London (England) based fDi Magazine rated Columbus #3 on its “Cities of the Future” list, which is based on economic potential, human resources, quality of life and business friendly conditions. Likewise, POLICOM Corporation ranked Columbus as having the seventh best economic conditions among the more than 300 cities it studied.   

The increased attention supports the findings of Colliers Turley Martin Tucker’s 1Q 2007 industrial report. The industrial market continued on an upward trend with nearly three (3) million square feet of newly constructed space completed during the quarter. The direct vacancy rate declined from 11.6 percent in 4Q 2006 to 10.9 percent. Bulk facility vacancy rates, on the other hand, spiked from 17.34 to 22.30 percent due to the large amount of construction completed during the quarter. This new space, however, is not anticipated to have a negative long-term affect on the region.
