Professional Summary
I am the Global Chairman and Chief Executive Officer and largest shareholder of Colliers International. I am also the Founder, Chairman and largest shareholder of FirstService Corporation, a North American leader in the essential property services sector.
Before establishing FirstService, I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from York University and a Doctorate of Laws from the University of Ottawa before embarking on a successful career as a corporate lawyer. In 2018 I was appointed a member of the Order of Canada and in 2019 received the International Horatio Alger Award. In 1998, I received Canada's coveted Entrepreneur of the Year award and in 2001 was named Canada's CEO of the year by Canadian Business Magazine. In 2011, I received an Honorary Doctorate from York University as well as an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from the University of Ottawa in 2014.
I currently serve as Past Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sinai Health System in Toronto and formerly was the Chairman of The Mount Sinai Hospital Board of Directors. My wife, Barbara, and I have also established the Hennick Family Foundation to support causes in health care and education including: The Hennick Family Wellness Gallery at The Mount Sinai Hospital, The Hennick Centre of Business and Law, a joint program of Osgoode Hall Law School and the Schulich School of Business in Toronto, and The Jay Hennick JD - MBA Program at the University of Ottawa.
Accomplishments
In 1998, Mr. Hennick was awarded Canada's Entrepreneur of the Year. In 2001, he was named Canada's CEO of the Year by Canadian Business Magazine, and in 2011 received an Honorary Doctorate from York University and the University of Ottawa. In 2018, Mr. Hennick was appointed a member of the Order of Canada and is also the 2019 International Horatio Alger Award recipient.
