Sara Lee Corporation acquired the Earthgrains Company in July of 2001 to form the Sara Lee Bakery Group (SLBG). SLBG operates fresh-bakery and refrigerated-dough businesses in the United States and Europe. Operating 61 bakeries with sales of $2.6 billion in Fiscal Year 2001, SLBG is the second-largest producer of fresh packaged bread and baked goods in the United States.
